S.A.M. – a Ministry with a special focus on our homebound members.

Our Mission: To bring the love and comfort of the church family to those who, through illness or incapacity can no longer come to us.

Our Biblical Basis: "For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me...Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me."

Matthew 25:35-36, 40

What We Do: We make regular visits to the people we serve. We listen, carry news of the church, sing sometimes and pray always. Together we celebrate birthdays and other special days of the year. We write personal notes, send home church news and take flowers and treats. We maintain a current list of members and share it with others in the church.

Whatever Is Needed: This includes many things; we shop, run errands, feed pets, make visits to doctors, have keys made, replace eye glasses, help with insurance, get appraisals done, witness wills, contact distant families, clean house, provide food and/or clothes, plan funeral services, check on our friends before and after hurricanes, help recover money taken by fraud and the list goes on... Generally, it can be said that we try to do what a family would do. We try to provide love and understanding at all times.

Our Dream: S.A.M. has a dream! We dream of having a loving, nurturing friend for each and every homebound member of our church family.

"The powerless and those perceived
to be on the margins of life are of value
and efforts should be made to reach out
to the frail and dependent to provide a
sense of compassion and connection."

– David J. Fetterman

"Dedicate some of your life to others.
Your dedication will not be a sacrifice.
It will be an exhilarating experience
because it is effort applied towards
a meaningful end. You will know the
happiness that comes of serving
others who have great needs."

– Dr. Thomas A. Dooley
